vision recycling: responding to California’s goal of achieving zero-waste
Vision Recycling is a Monterey Bay Area mulch supplier and compost producer based in Fremont with stores around Central California: Benicia, Livermore, Newark, Salinas, Gonzales and servicing Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties. Vision Recycling converts green waste, yard trimmings, and wood debris into bulk landscape supply with fourteen products to choose from.
Since 1994, they have been responding to California’s goal of achieving zero-waste by working with communities to divert organics back to local soils. According to Andrew Tuckman, Vision Recycling’s sales and marketing coordinator, “Our facilities foster a closed-loop recycling model, one in which contractors around the bay can drop off their yard trimmings at one of the sites and then load up with mulch at the same time. It’s the perfect system for efficiency and the only form of recycling which stays here locally.” Tom Del Conte, the owner of Vision, has been in business for fifty years operating the parent company Del Conte’s Landscaping. Del Conte specializes in commercial maintenance, high-end residential installation, and water management. Vision has blossomed into a large operation which sells their compost and mulch to various markets. Andrew has been actively involved with the chapter since 2009, and has served on the board in various capacities including events director and president for several terms. Andrew was also pivotal in transitioning the membership’s internal structure (newsletter, event registrations and online communications) into an electronic forum.
For many years, Andrew and Ben Bording (Cool Earth Gardens) created the CLCA All Star Band, playing at many of the chapter events as well as several state conventions. The All Star Band played a range of styles, from jazz to blues, rock to zydeco, funk, fusion, and world music. When asked about his time over the years Andrew said, “it was always my goal to unite the chapter bringing contractors together with suppliers, designers and business executives so that the green industry on the central coast could benefit from each other. And having the band made it all the more fun. It was an easy way to soften the social environment at events.” Andrew was awarded the Associate Member of the Year in 2016 for his dedication and hard work in the CLCA.
