Managing The Madness
Tuesday, JulY 25th, 11AM -2:30 PM
GRANITEROCK, 350 TECHNOLOGY DR, WATSONVILLE, CA 95076

In late July, Central Coast CLCA contractors and their team members joined Shane White from K&D Landscaping and Jeremy Yearton from Hunter Industries at Graniterock HQ to learn some techniques about “Managing the Madness” in the Landscape and Business world.

There were many experience shares along with some new technology tools to help landscape contractors navigate the busy challenges of the day-to-day chaos we sometimes face.

This peer group style of collaboration and learning was a great opportunity for people to speak up and share their challenges and ideas and work together as a group to navigate through those.

Big shoutout to Graniterock for allowing us to host the event at their beautiful facility. Thank you to Jeremy Yearton and Hunter Industries for their great support and presentation around tech tools and services provided by Hunter during our session. Ewing Irrigation sponsored lunch and it was delicious, the CLCA appreciates all the support and effort that goes into putting these events on, we couldn’t do it without you!

Creating Landscape Irrigation Shedules for Healthy and Beautiful Landscapes

Friday, May 28, 2021 from 10:00 to 11:00am– Online

Presented by Michael Johnson, longstanding CLCA/CC member and educator.

The Creating Landscape Irrigation Schedules (CLIS) training is designed for irrigation managers who want to quickly and easily develop irrigation schedules for healthy and beautiful landscapes. Utilizing site-specific weather, soil, plant, and irrigation system data, you can create base irrigation schedules for mature landscapes with multiple hydrozones in a few minutes. Then enter the schedule into any standard controller and adjust monthly with the percent-adjust feature.

Firescaping Basics from the Central Coast Chapter

Saturday, February 20, 2021 — ONLINE

Industry leaders shared their knowledge about wildfire mitigation in the wildland-urban interface (WUI), an important topic for those of us who live in the rural parts of Santa Cruz County.

A Zoom recording of the seminar gives you a chance to learn ways to help reduce risks related to low-intensity wildfires. Concepts presented include maintenance of vegetation, awareness, and management of combustible materials, thoughtful design, layout, and incorporation of fire and ember-resistant construction materials and plants, fire breaks, firescape designs, and the importance of neighborhood and community involvement.

Central Coast Chapter
Liar’s Cup Invitational Golf Tournament

SEPTEMBER 12, 2019
SEASCAPE GOLF CLUB, APTOS, CA

On a beautiful bright and sunny afternoon, over 40 determined golfers converged on Seascape Golf Course, in Aptos, California. They came to strive for golfing excellence, and vie for the right to have their name etched upon the crown jewel of Central Coast CLCA honor, The Liar’s Cup. The fairways were green, and the course trim for golf this day. The golf maintenance crew treated everyone in attendance with respect, setting the day for a wonderful experience.

All in attendance had a great time. At the end of regulation, all could brag about their well-hit shots, and the ones which just rolled short. After a delicious dinner prepared and served up by our host, Seascape Resort Staff, it was time to announce the day’s winners.

A special shout out to all of our tee-sponsors, chapter volunteers, and raffle gift suppliers, you make this whole event special.

Congratulation go out to Shane Henninger, who had closest to the hole honors of 12' on hole #8.
Also to Matt Ellington, who blasted a monster drive down the 10th Fairway.
And with a 12 under par total of 59:
Mike Jones, Justin Rojas, Mike Lamson, and Chris Elliott were this year’s Tournament Winners.

Really, everyone was a winner. The day was warm, the course played fair, and the food and beverages were superb. Well done Central Coast!

Thank you to Chris Elliot for reporting on this year’s CLCA Central Coast Golf Tournament!

We WERE Beautiful!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
saturday April 20, 20191-4 pm

Screen Shot 2019-04-30 at 3.15.09 PM.png

On Saturday, April 20 Cabrillo College Horticulture students and CLCA Central Coast installed a drip irrigation system at the heritage demonstration orchard at the Santa Cruz Live Oak Grange (1900 17th Avenue, entrance is pictured to the right). Chris Elliot, Aqua Green Landscape Irrigation, helped students install a flow meter and two drip valves while K&D Landscaping staff provided heavy lifting by trenching for the mainline and lateral pipes. The students then assembled the pipe system and the Techline drip tree rings per their design. The students were excited to work on this project and we all appreciate the support of the CLCA on this project. It was a valuable learning experience for them to participate in all phases of an irrigation system design and installation project. Ewing Irrigation, Netafim, and California H2orticulture Services generously donated all irrigation materials. Next, the students will create a climate-appropriate, efficient irrigation schedule to help the trees thrive and provide delicious fruit for many years. This was a great collaborative project that benefits a 60+ year old agricultural fraternity that maintains a beautiful orchard and community garden in the heart of Live Oak.

Thanks to Michael Johnson of California H2orticulture Services for putting this together, our sponsors and to all the volunteers who donated their time.
