Julia Zuckerman of Delta Bluegrass
a multi-talented woman with a long family history in California
Meet CLCA Central Coast’s 2023 Secretary, 2024 Associate Member Director Julia Zuckerman. Julia is a fourth-generation farmer born and raised in Stockton, California. Julia graduated from Chico State University in 2020 where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Agriculture. Julia spends her free time skiing and hiking in Tahoe, ballroom dancing, surfing on the Delta, and golfing.
Throughout high school and college, Julia spent her summers working for the family farm. She spent time in each department learning all aspects of the diversified family farming businesses.
Julia’s heritage in agriculture dates back to the early 1900s when her great grandfather began farming the rich soil of the San Joaquin River Delta. The farming business has since been passed down from generation to generation. In 1978, Julia’s father, Ed Zuckerman, introduced a new crop to the family business, turf grass. Forty-five years later, Delta Bluegrass Company is known as the highest quality sod supplier in Northern and Central California.
Currently, Julia is a territory manager for the company’s largest distributors including Horizon Irrigation, Site One Landscapes, Ewing Irrigation, Watersavers Irrigation, and Imperial Sprinkler Supply. Delta Bluegrass Company recognizes the importance of partnering with industry associations. Being a CLCA Board Member has been a great joy and asset for Julia to establish herself in the landscape industry. She is looking forward to continuing her participation in CLCA and utilizing all the benefits that the association has to offer to further her career.
You can read more about the Zuckerman’s story here in Comstock’s back article from Oct 14, 2022, written by Jennifer Fergesen.
“Over 100 years ago, Chicago native Roscoe Zuckerman first saw the labyrinthine waterways and windswept fields of the California Delta. He was there on a sourcing assignment for his cousin Edward Weyl, who ran a produce company in Los Angeles. But as he got to know the still-wild place and the people cultivating it, he realized he didn’t want to be a middleman tethered to the city. He wanted to be a farmer…” Read more here in Comstock’s Magazine.
